Laura's Journey. . .

Why I Write

Me on December 15, 2006, my birthday and all is well. This blog is my way of communicating my story to you, what it is to live through cancer and its treatment…  I am happy to share, but I am also sad to be sharing, because it means, I have breast cancer… and who wants to deal with that?

I am on a hell of a journey, and I will not sugar coat my feelings on here, so I am warning you now.  I am here to share my story, of how I am going to make it through the chemotherapy, radiation, and all the good stuff that comes with trying to be cancer-free.  I believe knowledge is power, and in the power of healing in sharing your story.  I will be posting pictures throughout and if I don’t have a caption with it, roll over my picture with your mouse, and the photo information will pop up.

I also have to do a disclaimer here, for cancer is not anything to mess around with by yourself.  This site is not to tell you how to deal with cancer, give you medical advice or anything of that nature.  I will tout about regular cancer screenings here and there, for early detection is the best prevention my friends, that and a well lifestyle.

So my friends, let us put one foot in front of the other and begin this journey.

Laura. I have just been diagnosed with stage III breast cancer w/HER 2 neu. Jan 8th was a mastectomy w/12 nodes taken out and 3 were positive w/cancer. My current survival rate is 30%. I have a 16 month journey of chemo, tamoxifen, herceptin, radiation and another series of herceptin to make it through. If I make it though the treatment, my life expectancy should be up to about 60%.

I too am a single mom with 2 boys (10 and 12) full time job (but not at the moment – waiting on surgeon’s release) and your site was very informative.

    Thank you. Cathy

    Cathy,

I would like to invite you to the group. We have many, many survivors there, including some that were Stage IV. The founder, Christine, just past her 18 years mark. She had brain mets, lung mets 8 years after the initial surgery. But she has been NED (No Evidence of Disease) since 2001.

    Please check it out!
